Disaster Preparedness On The Go!

bin-car

A Plastic Bin  or Box in the trunk of the car serves many purposes! For every reason ranging from safety to cleanliness, a small plastic box in the back of your car can save the day. An emergency kit for the car doesn’t have to be expensive. Look around your house – you probably already have everything you need, you just need to get a little organized!

Here is a list of what you need to make a car emergency kit:

  • Plastic Bin – I like the size of this 33 Qt Box, available at StacksAndStacks.com
  • Flashlight – My personal preference is to keep a headlamp, as anything you are doing with your car in the dark is going to require two hands, so a headlamp will keep your hands free for more important things. And don’t forget extra batteries, just in case!
  • Cell Phone Backup Battery – You can purchase a one time use backup battery for your cell phone – they are tiny and can come in handy if your car battery is also dead.
  • Water and Food – A few bottles of water and some granola bars are all you need for short trips away from home.
  • First Aid Kit – Including bandages, gauze, tape, scissors, an antibiotic ointment and latex-free disposable gloves. Once you have at least these four things in your trunk, you can rest assured that you will be prepared for most small emergencies.

If you already have an emergency kit in your car, here are some great ideas for using plastic bins in your car:

  • Baby and Kids Supplies: At the very least, you need to have extra Diapers and Wipes. Some bonus items, depending on the age of your kids include Food, Formula and Bottles, Extra Pacifiers and clothes
  • Mud Bin: A plastic box can hold muddy shoes and clothes, a great way to keep your clean!

Terrific and comprehensive information! In-depth and detailed. I would like to add that if you punched holes in the pictured box, you could put the dog IN the box.
